Sandra Brown is a novelist I just discovered, with fifty-six New York Times bestseller to her name. Hmmm - Promising.
The first novel of hers I read was Play Dirty. I enjoyed that book immensely - characters and the twist. Good enough for me to check Brown's other books. My next one was Smoke Screen. Not a bad one either - interesting, a bit of action, a little romance. I decided I should read more of her novels.
So, for my third, I chose Not Even for Love - taking a break from suspense thrillers and mystery - moving on to just plain love story. Bad decision. It was too cheesy for me, too Mills and Boon type - it was an agony to finish to the end. Good thing it was a short one. Score : two - one.
Then, I started with Chill Factor. This was just not my type. Too slow, too many detours and side roads - I wanted the highways. I decided not to finish the book. Waste of time.
Fifth book - Richochet. It was another good one. It kept me guessing until the last few chapters. I even took a rest after this book, just so I can replay and re-imagine in my mind how the story unfolded. That's me when I get really engrossed in a novel.
Score as of today : 3 good, 1 so-so, 1 undecided
My point : The only way to check out a writer is to read their work, don't go by their publicist. :)
